All vessels need to be checked to ensure that they meet safety standards on a regular basis. If something were to happen on your vessel and you needed insurance to kick in the first thing they would want to know is when the last time you had it inspected for safety was. Obviously, this is because they are going to do what they can to get out of paying the insurance claim.

One of the other big reasons why someone would hire a surveyor is because they are interested in purchasing a boat. Would you buy a car or a house before you inspected it yourself or had a professional look it over? Chances are pretty good you would never even dream of doing that. A boat is just as big of an investment as a car or a house. It is not a purchase that should be taken lightly. This professional could save you from spending tons of money on a boat that just is not worth the money. You will either decide the boat is not worth purchasing or you are going to decide that the seller needs to bring down the price in order for you to buy it.
